Tycho - Past is Prologue
Yesterday I bought and downloaded Tycho’s album entitled Past is Prologue. I first heard his (their?) music when I was visiting ISO50, the Portfolio of Scott Hansen. His web site is Flash based, and he had his music playing, and I found his music to be very good for listening to while you design or work on anything else at your computer. I found myself minimizing his web site just so I could listen to the music while I surfed elsewhere or was coding, so I figured what the hay, I might as well just buy the MP3 download.
The music is like ambient electronic/techno music with lots of lo-fi samples, weird sounds, conversational dialogue and other stuff mixed together to make music that for some reason makes me think of when I was a kid, and the early 80’s in general, but with a more space-age feel to it. If you’ve ever seen the remake of the movie Solaris, then cross-pollenate that with 2001, you’ve got a good idea of what I’m talking about. Mind you, this is only how it makes me feel, and I’m terrible at describing things in general.
I highly recommend swinging by the Tycho web site, and listening to the samples, then decide for yourself if this is possibly the best electronic music you’ve ever heard, or if I’m just going insane.
