The 80’s party
Last night I went to a friend’s 40th birthday party. It was at a club in Koreatown that he rented for the evening. The theme was the 1980’s. Amanda went as Jem, from Jem and the Holograms, I went as Robert Smith from The Cure, my friend Sean went as Marty McFly from Back to the Future, Jim, my future brother-in-law went as a Ghostbuster, complete with inflatable proton pack, and Vanessa, my future sister-in-law went as Alexandra Owens from Flashdance.
It was a pretty cool party, with the birthday boy (man) dressing up as James “Sonny” Crockett from Miami Vice, and lots of other people dressing in various 80’s themes. The DJ was none other than Richard Blade, which was awesome. Obviously, he was very professional, but he was also a very nice, easy going guy who seems to really love what he does.
At some point during the night, they had a costume contest. Third place went to Sean, second place went to Vanessa, and First place went to me! Exciting, no? I was really stoked. I had a lot of compliments throughout the evening from various guests stating that my outfit looked really good. Even the DJ pointed at me as soon as I walked in and made a reference to The Cure. His photographer even walked up to me and asked me where I got the wig and whether or not I customized it. Big props to Amanda for suggesting that outfit, it was a hit! I’ll probably do the same thing for Halloween this year. Awesome.
I had too much to drink last night, and let’s just say that I was very surprised that I was still able to walk back to the car. I think I had some assistance from my friends. Sorry everyone.
I really thought Amanda looked beautiful as Jem. The pink eye makeup really made her natural blue eyes stand out more. Every time I looked at her, I was taken back by how pretty she looked. It was nice to dance with her and have my friends and other happy party goers around. All in all, I think everyone had a great time. Happy Birthday Mike, and thanks for the memories!
