Realign underway (already)!
Although I just launched this blog, I want to change it up. Now, usually, that means a redesign from scratch, but in this case, there are just a few more things I want to do with this site, so I will be going the realign route.
First things first, I want a three column layout. I strongly believe in form and function, so I am not making a three column layout because it’s the cool thing to do, or the Holy Grail of web design, or any of that. I am doing it because I feel that I can better offer more content without wasting valuable screen space that I am currently wasting to the right and left of the document you are reading now (unless you’re using a feed reader).
According to Google Analytics, users who visit my site hardly ever use an 800 x 600 resolution, but the majority use 1024 x 768. When I originally designed this site, I was designing it under the assumption that I would not be blogging very often, but in fact, I’m blogging on average about twice a day! So I didn’t design it to have all sorts of sections that I would have to update. Now I realize I have a real desire let readers in on more of my life, like what articles on other sites I found interesting. With the realign, I will have a section that allows me to have asides, or outbound links, or bookmarks, or whatever I would like.
Most of this design will stay intact, it will still be dark and minimalist, but I will probably change out all of the graphics (all 3 of them). I might even add (gasp!) a little color here and there, sparingly, but don’t quote me on that. Again, this is only a realign because overall I am happy with this site, I just want more out of it.
At this point I am very happy that I made this site from scratch using, in my opinion, very clean code, so it won’t be such a pain in the arse to rework some things, which means less work, which hopefully translates into meaning I can get most of it done this coming weekend. Ultimately, this will be less of a personal web site, and more of a portal directly into my soul. Okay, maybe nothing that dramatic, but hopefully, it will rock.
