On the subject of video games.
Video games and I go way back. I’ve played them since I was about two years old. My uncle ran an awesome (if memory serves me correctly) pizza joint with an additional room filled with arcade games. I was a bit too short to play most of the games, so my cousin would hold me up to the controls so I could reach them. I can only assume that I sucked at them big time.
My favorite types of games growing up and into my adulthood were any and all of the hits of the 80’s NES days, role playing games, and one-on-one fighting games. I used to love going to the arcade and playing some Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2, Soul Calibur, and Tekken 2 and 3. I even once won a Tekken 2 tournament in an arcade in Florida! I split all the tokens I won with all of the contestants because I’m cool like that. I also made it to the semi-finals in a console based Tekken 3 tournament held at San Diego Comic Con in 2005. Alas, the arcade days in this country are pretty much gone, and I don’t do a whole lot of entering tournaments, since I am very much out of practice.
Nowadays I still play some video games, but since I’m now an adult and have to support myself and go to work I have a lot less time to play them. Couple that with the fact that I am getting married on October 14th of this year, which means less money buy buy the new systems.
Even so, I find myself playing the more popular video games when I can. I still haven’t sprung for an Xbox 360 or a Wii, both of which I would like to own eventually, but I still play Halo 2 online with my original Xbox, and for a while there, I was playing a lot of World of Warcraft. In fact, Warcraft had me addicted like crazy for a while, but since I work the night shift, there were fewer people to play with in the realm when I was on, and after I got to a high enough rank to where almost all of my quests were group quests, my interest started to fizzle. I never even bought the Burning Crusade expansion. I’m still paying monthly for the service, but I’m not sure if I’ll ever get back into it.
On the subject of Halo 2, I was very pleased that they released two new maps, Tombstone and Desolation at 2am this morning, which I immediately downloaded. I’ve never really been a fan of first-person shooters until I played Halo 2. I’m still not really a big fan of them. There’s just something about Halo 2 that keeps me coming back for more, and the two new maps, which, thankfully were released to be compatible with all Xbox consoles will only keep my interest piqued for an even longer time.
Anyways, that’s a quick foray into my life with video games. I will post to this category whenever I have anything else I want to share about my lifelong affair with gaming.
