I unexpectedly received a copy of Halo 3 yesterday!

So as you may have heard, Halo 3 was released yesterday for XBOX 360. It’s the biggest game of all time, and it will bring world peace. My fiancĂ©’s brother Jim had pre-ordered it, but I didn’t because I didn’t really have the dough with the wedding coming up and all. He invited me to come over last night and play his copy, and I did, but I was bummed out because I really wanted a copy of my own. Usually I don’t care that much about games, but Halo 2 was so fun, I really wanted to start from day one with Halo 3, you know, get into the grandeur of it all on launch day.

When I get to Jim’s house he has the copy in his hand, and he asks me if I want to look at it, so I do. Then he pulls out one of the inserts and tells me I can have it… along with the game. He had bought me the copy! Actually his mother went out and bought the copy, but it was his idea. She stated it was the last one in the store, and the clerk in the electronics department seemed reluctant to sell it. I think he probably wanted it for himself or a friend. Sucks to be him. In this case, anyway.

Halo 3 is awesome. The graphics are a big step up from Halo 2. The controls are different, but in a good way, and so far, the campaign is enjoyable. The one gripe we had is that in 2 player split-screen mode on a wide screen HDTV, there are black bars on each side of the screen, which means less can be seen at any given time. What gives? I believe that Bungie will correct this issue with a patch sooner or later. I have a standard def TV anyway, so it doesn’t really affect me at the time.

I played a game of Team Slayer last night online, and got my arse handed to me. In a bag. A paper one. But I still had fun. I haven’t read the instruction manual yet, and I didn’t take the time to go through all the options the game has to offer, but a few things I’m very interested in is some kind of experience point system which pertains to online battles, being able to ‘unlock’ new armor styles for customizing your character online, and continuing to explore the rest of the game and multiplayer maps. Not to mention the Forge system and uploading stuff to Bungie. I’m sure tonight I’ll even uncover some new stuff I didn’t know existed.

Tonight I plan to play the campaign online cooperatively with Jim, which is another great feature that the last one didn’t offer. Then we’ll play some multiplayer. Hopefully I’ll be handing out asses in paper bags, too.

If anyone in the world is reading this transmission and wants to team up sometime, my gamertag is PaxilBoyPaul on XBOX Live.

A big and sincere ‘Thank You’ to Jim and his family for thinking of me and doing something so unexpected. I love you guys.

I’m gay for you.

Sorry, I just didn’t want to end on such a touchy-feely note.
