Grindhouse fun with Sean.
Tonight, my friend Sean came over. First he gave me a cool Christmas present, one of my favorite horror films of all time, Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things on DVD. Very cool, and thank you Sean. Then we went over to the New Beverly Cinema where they have the monthly Grindhouse Film Festival. they were having a double feature of the original Black Christmas and Silent Night, Bloody Night. I was surprised that the stars of the movie, John Saxon, and Olivia Hussy were there as was the director, who also just happens to be the director of the above-mentioned Children, the great Bob Clark. I’ve seen Black Christmas before, but it was great to see it in the actual theater, not to mention a nice Q&A session with the actors and directors after the show.
Other interesting things tonight included the fact that you can bring your own alcohol into the theater (which I didn’t) and your own drinks and snacks (which I did), and the dude who licks the flagpole and gets his tongue stuck to it in the movie A Christmas Story was sitting just a few seats away from us. So was this other guy who was a child actor and became a porn star.
Silent Night, Bloody Night was not so great. I had never seen it before although I had seen the trailer for it last year at another Grindhouse theater, the CIA. It obviously strove for a more artistic feel, and depending on what kind of mood I’m in, I could enjoy it more, but for the most part, I just thought it was so-so.
All in all, I would say it was quite an excellent evening with my homie.
